Multiple programs. One profile. Log sightings of Malapascua marine life, dive sites and dive courses. Work your way up the leaderboard. Log your dives, post your photos and chat about all things diving and Malapascua. Then move on to worldwide sharks, nudis, seahorses and more.
Book with TSD →Dive sites, marine life, courses, plus the thresher dive count that separates regulars from obsessives.
Pick a program. Log what you see. Move up the levels to gain your Masters.
There are several programs. Masters of Malapascua and Masters of Sharks are open from day one, and so is every worldwide program. They are free for every diver. Destination programs such as Moalboal can be opened for a small fee, or with a code when you book your trip through TSD.
A species can belong to more than one program. Log it once and it counts on every program it qualifies for.
Every species you log earns points. Common reef life is 1 point. Less-seen species are 3 or 5. The trophy species are 10.
Sightings count how many different species you've seen. You can log each species only once per program. Points reflect how hard they were to see, and the more points you earn the higher you climb:
Each program is its own Master's, with its own species and points. The leaderboard ranks divers by total points across all programs.
Aside from the Malapascua program, you can dive these species anywhere in the world.
Masters is the top level of each program. Points alone are not enough. You also log the program's Thesis creature, write a short thesis on it for a professor (TSD staff) to approve, and pass the Masters exam.
Masters of Sharks: Thresher at Kimud Shoal, Malapascua. The only reliable cleaning station on earth.
Masters of Malapascua: Thresher at Kimud Shoal, the same creature, earned on the island itself.
Masters of Nudibranchs: Feather Boa Nudi (Pteraeolidia semperi). Macro sites in Cebu and Bohol.
Masters of Seahorses: Denise Pygmy Seahorse. Anda, Bohol.
Masters of Tropical Fish: Mandarin fish.
Masters of Macro: Mimic octopus.
Aside from the Malapascua program, you can dive these species anywhere in the world.
Tap + Log a dive on the Home screen, then pick the species and the site. Or browse any program (Malapascua, Sharks and so on), tap the creature you saw, and tap Log it. Either way, join the community by adding a photo and a comment. Submit, and the sighting is now on your profile.
You can log one sighting per species per program. Edit or delete a log from your logbook if you got it wrong, or add a note about conditions, behaviour, or who you were diving with.
If a species you saw isn't in the app, tap "Suggest a creature" at the bottom of any page.
Optional but recommended. Share what you've seen with other divers.
Per-program leaderboards rank divers by points within each program. Your profile shows your total points across all programs. Display name is what shows publicly. Change it any time in Profile.
You earn a Masters in a program when you have done all four:
a) reached the program's points target
b) logged the program's Thesis creature
c) written a short thesis on it and had it approved by a professor (TSD staff)
d) passed the Masters exam.
In Malapascua, every creature you log counts towards your points and your level straight away. To claim a prize, your creature sightings need confirming by a TSD divemaster. Dive sites and courses count straight away for prizes too.
Every Masters earns you a card to share on social media, a badge on your profile and a place on the Graduates list. Wear your new degree with pride!
You win prizes as you climb the Malapascua levels. Creature sightings are confirmed by a TSD divemaster in the app. Earn your Masters of Malapascua for 10% off at TSD for life and your name on the TSD wall.
